Media develops fast following the contemporary digital era. The development results in quick access to information as well as rapid sharing of such information. In addition, media use is capable of changing one’s lifestyle, habits, and even character. In response to the risks posed by the rapid development of media, Pundi Amal Peduli Kasih Foundation (YPP) Indosiar SCTV moved to hold the Media Literacy Education program to elementary school children in Jabodetabek.
The program was held on Monday, December 12, 2022 at Pisangan Timur State Elementary School 05 in Pulogadung, East Jakarta. Conducted in 2 sessions, participants of the event consisted of students in 1st grade to 6th grade. They were all reported to have been very enthusiastic for the event led by storyteller Kak Resha who explained the meaning of media, types of media, problems caused by the misuse of media, how to filter media, and beyond. These explanations were not only delivered through simple presentations, but also through Kak Resha’s use of games, songs, and questions, making the activity much more engaging for the children.
YPP also brought along the Mobil Weli (Bookmobile) that had books the children were happy to choose from and read on the school’s field.
