Pundi Amal Peduli Kasih Foundation SCTV-Indosiar, in collaboration with the Indonesian Navy and the South Sulawesi PERDAMI conducted the Cataract Operation Social Service program in support of the Medical Civic Action Program 4th Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo (Medcap MNEK) 2023.
The surgeries took place on the Hospital Ship KRI dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo-991, anchored on Barrang Lompo Island, Sangkarrang Islands, Makassar, South Sulawesi. PERDAMI deployed approximately 10 ophthalmologists and 14 other teams consisting of assistant surgeons, nurses, and technicians to support the surgeries.
Cataract patients come from the city of Makassar, Barrang Lompo Island, Barang Caddi Island and several other surrounding islands. A total of 42 cataract patients were successfully operated on board the ship. Meanwhile, several other patients who were not able to participate in the surgeries onboard planned to have surgery at the Hasanuddin Makassar Hospital in June 2023. This activity was attended by the TNI AL Health Service (Kadiskesal), First Admiral TNI dr. Agus Guntoro, Sp.BS-Subsp Spine (K). Kadiskesal, as well as the Kadispotmaral, First Admiral TNI DR. Suradi Agung Slamet.. S.T., S.Sos, M.M. and his staff reviewed operational activities at KRI dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo-991.
