YPP SCTV Indosiar has collaborated with Alpha Omega Care (AOC), Cicendo Eye Hospital, and PERDAMI West Java to support the Garut Health Department and Regional Government in carrying out cataract surgeries at the Sukarame Community Health Center in Jl S Parman, Purbayan Village, Caringin District, South Garut. Located in what is known as Ranca Buaya at the southern coast of Garut, the journey there takes 5 hours from Garut and 10 hours from Jakarta. The YPP team decided to save time by taking an alternative route through Pangalengan via a winding mountain path prone to landslides, cutting the journey to 3 hours.
Implementation of the Social Service program adhered to strict health protocols during the COVID 19 Pandemic, where prospective patients were required to go through rapid testing during initial screening, wear masks, maintain distance, and more. A lot of the participants come from remote villages and sub-districts around the location, with many showing interest and registering. Due to the pandemic, the number of surgical patients was limited to a maximum of 50 people, all of them having been successfully treated.
The surgeries were carried out from 08.00 am until noon by the Medical team from Cicendo Eye Hospital, led by Dr Aldiana Halim SpM (K), MSc with a team of 13 people. The Head of Caringin District, Ripan Mulyadi AP, and his entourage came to visit to inspect the implementation of this social service activity.
Caringin Subdistrict Head, Ripan Mulyadi AP, appreciated the activity organized by YPP, SCTV, Indosiar, and AO Care. He cited how useful the activity is for the people in his area who suffer from cataracts. Meanwhile, Head of the Cicendo Ophthalmologist Team, Dr Aldiana Halim, SpM (K) MSc, said that there are still around 1.3 million people in Indonesia who suffer from cataract blindness. Therefore, activities such as the one from YPP are greatly beneficial for patients all over the country, especially those in rural areas far from health centers. "Individuals who suffer from cataract blindness experience a 50% reduction in their quality of life both socially and economically. This burdens the productivity of his family members as a whole,” said Dr Aldiana Halim. The provision of these surgeries serve to alleviate the burdens of poverty.
The cataract surgeries were made possible with donations sent in by SCTV viewers, Indosiar, Bukalapak users, visitors to Liputan6.com, and Vidio.com via the YPP donation account. Your donation can also be sent via the DOKU application or by clicking on the DONATE NOW button on the upper right corner of the screen.
