Online Handover, 42 MCKs in 8 North and East Lombok Schools, Officially Handed Over to The Schools.

In the midst of the Covid 19 Pandemic, Pundi Amal Peduli Kasih Foundation (YPP) and Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) fulfilled their commitment to complete the construction of 42 toilet units and 21 water tanks in eight schools in North and East Lombok Districts affected by the 2018 Lombok Earthquake. Now, more than 1,269 children and 118 teachers in North and East Lombok Districts, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province are benefiting. The support is a form of WVI's collaboration that was funded by SCTV-Indosiar viewers through Pundi Amal Peduli Kasih Foundation (YPP) to fulfill water, sanitation and hygiene needs in eight schools.

On June 26, 2020, the handover was carried out via online using a video conference application from five locations: YPP-SCTV Indosiar Office (Jakarta), WVI Head Office (Jakarta), SDN 5 Jenggala (Lombok), WVI Regional Office (Lombok) and North Lombok Education and Sports Office (Lombok). All parties involved feel grateful to have completed the community's mandate to help the people of Lombok recover after the earthquake.

Although during the Covid 19 Pandemic students study at home, the existence of toilets can still be utilized by teachers who take turns in charge of the school. In addition, residents and children around the school also use it for their daily needs. YPP Chief Executive, Dewi Yudho Miranti appreciated WVI for channeling donations from SCTV and Indosiar viewers. "This is a trust from our viewers who have willingly donated to help others. Therefore, we really hope that the facilities that have been built can be maintained and utilized properly," said Dewi.

Meanwhile, WVI's Response Manager for Lombok Earthquake Emergency Response, Samuel Situmorang, said the construction of toilets since late 2019 was an effort to increase community resilience, especially children related to water, sanitation and hygiene needs. "We also socialize and educate the community and children about the importance of sanitation and hygiene," Samuel said. The education carried out, according to Samuel, has shown changes in the behavior of school residents, especially children. They are very eager to keep the toilet clean, diligently wash their hands with soap and become more creative in utilizing plastic beverage bottles that were previously scattered in the school yard into beautiful works. "In facing the current Covid-19 pandemic, children can be said to be more prepared, because they have carried out health protocols well," Samuel explained.

On the same occasion, the Head of the North Lombok Education and Sports Office, Fauzan, expressed his gratitude for the concern and contribution from YPP and Wahana Visi Indonesia. "Sanitation is very important. We often have difficulties, because the earthquake made several springs hit by landslides. There are several schools that have yet to recover," said Fauzan. At least, according to Fauzan, as many as 7,000 school rooms were destroyed during the 2018 earthquake, assistance and collaboration with various parties, accelerated the recovery after the Lombok earthquake.

Representing the beneficiaries, the Principal of SDN 5 Jenggala, expressed his gratitude for the assistance. "We, the school community, are committed to protecting, maintaining and making the best use of the toilet facilities that have been built, and have greatly helped the entire school community," said Inggersadi, Principal of SDN 5 Jenggala.
