Imam Syafii was Hindered by Hot Lava on His Way To Rescuing Wife and Mother-in-Law

Imam Syafii sadly recounted the moments in which he was forced to save himself from the hot clouds of Mount Semeru's eruption. This resident of Curah Kobokan Hamlet, Supiturang Village, Pronojiwo District was mining sand when the disaster hit his village. Upon hearing about the eruption, he immediately returned home to save his wife, son, and mother-in-law. On the way, his steps were blocked by a flow of hot lava that caused his motorbike tires to explode. Luckily, Imam still had boots on to protect his feet. Arriving not far from his house, Imam forced his way through to save his family. Residents detained him and said his wife and in-laws had been evacuated. However, a day after the hot clouds of the avalanche subsided, Imam Syafii finally found out that his wife and mother-in-law had died. The body of his wife, Rumini, was found in the kitchen under the rubble, hugging her mother. Fortunately, his son, Zaki Pratama, was safe due to being in his uncle’s house on the day of the disaster.
