Yayasan Pundi Amal Peduli Kasih (YPP) SCTV Indosiar, Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs, Maluku Primary Eye Clinic and Indonesian Ophthalmologist Association held a Cataract Surgery Social Service in Kei Islands, Southeast Maluku Regency, Maluku Province, on 22-24 and 26 July 2024, taking place at Elat Community Health Center, Kei Besar District and Karel Sudsuitubun General Hospital, Kei Kecil District, Southeast Maluku, this social activity was supported by 10 medical teams from the Maluku Primary Eye Clinic and Perdami, as well as dozens of medical teams from local health centers and hospitals.
Cataract patients came from 11 sub-districts and 21 health centers in Southeast Maluku Regency. A total of 243 patients were successfully operated on.
The Indonesian Minister of Social Affairs, Tri Rismaharini, reviewed the cataract surgery activities and chatted with patients. The Minister said that in addition to cataract surgery, the Ministry of Social Affairs also conducted other social services on Kei Besar Island, including empowerment, treatment of people with mental illness and leprosy, as well as clean water assistance. For the transportation of relief goods, the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs collaborates with KRI Teluk Weda, while the cataract operation collaborates with YPP SCTV Indosiar. The choice of location in Kei Besar is because this location is the foremost island in Indonesia, they are quite far from the location of treatment.
