Free Cataract Surgeries in Muara Teweh, Central Kalimantan

Pundi Amal Peduli Kasih Foundation, in collaboration with PERDAMI’s Central Cataract Blindness Management Division, succeeded in providing free cataract surgeries to 116 patients at Muara Teweh, North Barito Regency, Central Kalimantan Province on 15-16 December 2023. 

Taking place at the Muara Teweh Regional General Hospital, the program attracted patients from the North Barito area and its surroundings.

With only 1 ophthalmologist in Muara Teweh, cataract patients were often referred to bigger hospitals outside of the city, thus explaining local community’s enthusiasm as seen from the amount of patients who showed up for the operation.

The Cataract Surgery Social Service program in Muara Teweh was inaugurated and attended directly by North Barito’s Acting Regent, Drs. Muhlis.
